Are we programmed to work out regularly?

Survival of the fittest is a term loosely thrown around, and sometimes we blame our genetics for our success. Are we programmed to get better at something until we have achieved something? In other words, do we work out because we enjoy it or is it our primal instinct? I believe when hard labor was a part of our every day thousands of years ago, that was humans' equivalent of doing overtime. Not many people did it, but it helped if you could push yourself to run a little extra or lift a little more.

As I head to the gym, I wonder if I like working out because of all the options and results or if I have an instinct? No one pays me to look good or do I have a strength enduring job. People sometimes ask me when is the best time to work out? You might have heard the answers such as 4:30 a.m., after work, or 3 times a week. My answer is twilight because when I go for a run I usually pick a pretty deep forest and run around until it starts to get dark and I become lost. Then twilight happens and I start to run faster because I know it will be harder to find my way back in the dark.
